Camping without a shower is fine for one night. After two or three days in the backcountry, on the boat, or at a festival site, a proper rinse becomes a real need. This Solar Camping Shower Bag gives you a full 20 litres of solar-heated water — warm enough to wash with — hanging from a tree or car roof rack, no power outlet, no pump, no campsite facilities required. Fill it, lay it in the sun for three hours, hang it up, and you have a warm outdoor shower wherever you are.

Why It Stands Out
  • Solar heating to 45°C (113°F) in 3 hours — the heat-absorbing outer material captures direct sunlight and transfers it into the water; lay the bag flat in sun for a few hours and step under a warm shower when you're ready, no energy source needed
  • 20L / 5-gallon capacity — enough water for a full rinse shower for one person, or a quick wash for two; significantly more water than smaller 10L bags that run out mid-shower
  • Built-in temperature indicator strip — a colour-coded indicator on the bag shows the approximate water temperature so you know before you turn on the flow whether the water is warm enough to shower with
  • Rotary shower head with adjustable flow — the shower head has a rotary on/off switch and adjusts from a gentle trickle to a full flow, giving you control over how long your water lasts and how strong the spray is
  • Large fill hole with sealed dual cap — the wide fill opening makes filling from a tap, stream, or bucket fast and easy; the sealed dual-cap system prevents leaks when the bag is laid flat to heat in the sun
  • Quick-release buckle handle for easy hanging — the reinforced carry handle with quick-release buckle clips onto a tree branch, rope, car rack, or hook in seconds; the bag hangs stably even when full
  • Built-in mesh storage pocket — keep your soap, shampoo, or small accessories in the front mesh pocket so everything is in one place when you shower
  • Folds flat for compact storage — when empty the bag collapses completely flat and rolls or folds into the included mesh drawstring bag (35 × 14cm packed) — fits in any backpack or camping kit without taking up meaningful space
  • Eco-friendly leak-proof material — made from safe, non-toxic heat-absorbing material that is confirmed leak-proof under normal use conditions

Where to Use It
  • Tent and backcountry camping — hang from a tree at your campsite for a warm rinse after a day on the trail without needing to find shower facilities
  • Beach and lake trips — rinse off sand, salt, and lake water before getting back in the car; also works for rinsing wetsuits, gear, and kids
  • Fishing and hunting camps — wash off at the end of a day in remote locations where no facilities exist
  • Road trips and overland travel — hang from a roof rack or open tailgate for a quick outdoor rinse at any rest stop or campsite
  • Backpacking and hiking — packs flat into any bag; fills from any clean water source and heats while you walk or rest
  • Washing pets and produce — the adjustable flow and 20L capacity make it practical for rinsing dogs after a hike or washing fresh fruit and vegetables at a campsite

How It Works
  1. Solar heating: The outer surface of the bag is made from a heat-absorbing material that captures solar radiation and converts it to heat inside the water. Laying the bag flat on a dark surface or car roof in direct sunlight maximises heat absorption. In full direct sun, the 20L of water reaches approximately 45°C (113°F) within 3 hours. The temperature indicator strip on the bag changes colour as the water heats so you can monitor progress without opening the bag.
  2. Gravity-fed flow: There is no pump. Water flows from the bag through the hose and shower head purely by gravity — the higher you hang the bag, the stronger the flow pressure. A height of 1.5–2 metres above your head gives a comfortable shower pressure. The rotary switch on the shower head controls flow from off through to full open, letting you pause mid-shower to conserve water.
  3. Compact and portable design: When empty the bag is completely flexible and folds or rolls flat to 35 × 14cm, fitting into the included mesh storage bag. This means it packs into any backpack, car boot, or dry bag without displacing other gear.

How to Use
  1. Open the large fill cap and fill the bag with clean water — a bucket, tap, or stream works; fill to the 20L capacity line or your preferred amount
  2. Seal both caps firmly — the dual-cap system prevents leaks when the bag is laid flat
  3. Lay the bag flat on a dark surface, car roof, or rock in direct sunlight — the dark side facing up maximises heat absorption; leave for 2–3 hours depending on sun intensity
  4. Check the temperature indicator strip on the bag — when the colour indicates warm water, the bag is ready to use
  5. Hang the bag from a tree branch, rope, car rack, or hook using the carry handle and quick-release buckle — aim for 1.5–2 metres above the ground for good flow pressure
  6. Attach the hose and shower head if not already connected, turn the rotary switch to your preferred flow level, and shower as needed
  7. Turn the rotary switch to off between rinses to conserve water
  8. After use, open the fill cap and drain any remaining water completely, then fold flat and store in the included mesh bag
  9. Tip: On partly cloudy days, place the bag on a dark car roof — the metal surface retains heat and supplements the solar heating even when direct sun is intermittent

Care and Maintenance
  • ✓ After each use, drain completely and leave open to air dry before folding and storing — storing with water inside promotes mildew and odour over time
  • ✓ Rinse the interior with clean water periodically, especially if filling from natural water sources — a light rinse removes sediment and keeps the bag fresh
  • ✓ Store away from prolonged direct UV exposure when not in use — extended UV exposure degrades the outer material over time
  • ✓ Check the fill cap seals before each trip — if a seal feels loose or cracked, ensure it is tightened fully before filling to prevent leaks when laying flat
  • ✓ Do not fill with very hot water — the bag is designed to heat water via solar energy, not to hold pre-boiled water; filling with very hot water can stress the material and seals

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to heat the water?
In direct sunlight, the 20L of water heats to approximately 45°C (113°F) in around 3 hours. Heating time depends on sun intensity, ambient temperature, and how the bag is positioned. Laying the bag flat on a dark surface such as a car roof speeds up heating. The built-in temperature indicator strip changes colour as the water warms so you can check progress without opening the bag.
How long will 20 litres last in the shower?
At a moderate flow, 20 litres provides approximately 5–8 minutes of continuous shower time — enough for a full wash and rinse for one person. Using the rotary switch to pause flow between soaping and rinsing extends this significantly. Two people can get a quick rinse from one fill if water is used conservatively.
What if it’s cloudy? Will the water still heat?
On overcast or partly cloudy days, heating will be slower and the final temperature lower than in full direct sun. On a warm cloudy day the water will still warm noticeably above ambient air temperature. For the best results on cloudy days, place the bag on a dark car roof or dark surface that retains heat, and give it more time than the standard 3 hours.
How high do I need to hang the bag to get good water pressure?
This shower works on gravity — the higher the bag, the better the flow pressure. Hanging the bag 1.5 to 2 metres above your head gives a comfortable shower pressure similar to a low-pressure indoor shower. A height of 1 metre or less will result in a gentle trickle. Most tree branches, car roof racks, and camp structures work well as hanging points.
Does it fold down small enough for a backpack?
Yes. When empty the bag folds completely flat and rolls or folds to a packed size of 35 × 14cm (13.8 × 5.5 inches), which fits inside the included mesh drawstring bag. This is compact enough to fit in the side pocket of most backpacks or in a car camping kit without taking up meaningful space.
Can I fill it from a river or lake while camping?
You can fill it from any water source including rivers, lakes, and streams. However this bag does not filter or purify water — it is a shower bag, not a water purifier. If you are filling from a natural source, use water that you would be comfortable having on your skin. For drinking water needs, always use a separate filtration system.
